Quilting.....Sort of

I was at my local Michaels wondering around, looking for something to use my 40% coupon on. I did about two laps around the store when I found it. It was a starter kit for quilting. I had noticed before that they had fabric on sale.. Real cute...Like for a baby. Plus it would give me a chance to use my mini sewing machine that I bought for ten bucks. So I bought it. Last night and this morning I finished a baby size quilt.
Reasons I will never (probably never) attempt this again:
1. You need an engineer degree to thread the machine
2. Stupid thread kept breaking every 5 minutes.
3. I cant cut straight (even with a guide)
4. I cant sew straight (even with a guide)
5. Pins and me don't mix
6. Big projects and little machines don't work well together
7. I cant sew straight (even with a guide)
8. Don't care to measure for an even seam (not a surprise since I hate to make swatches for knitting and crocheting)
9. I think I was not in my right mind when I bought this stuff
10. Stupid thread kept breaking

Even with ALL the problems, it came out cute, even though all the sides are not even (see REASONS 3 and 4). Once I find my camera, I will post a pic. Any one have a bandage I can use?

looming trial and error

I can up with this wonderful idea to loom. Provo craft came out with a new set of looms that can be used in several different ways. i thought it would be neat idea if i could make a quilt out of yarn. The pic is my first attempt. I already have a few issues with it but i think i know how to fix it. of course, if there is a loomer out there who may have a better solution...my ear are open. The first thing i dont like is the orange/green columns. i did that so i would not have any gaps in my work. but i dont like how it looks, maybe gaps willl be okay since it seems to smush together very well. also, the reason i wanted to do this was because on board knitting the front and back are the same, with my swatch, the back is green , so the swatch resembles a quilt with backing. i even thought about adding batting to the colored sections so they would puff out ( the reason for no gaps). so any ideas? suggestions? comments?

WIP

one of my newest is a blanket made from moda dea wild yarn. it is so soft. hopefully i bought enought balls when they were on clearance at Michaels. At first i was using the yarn to make a shawl on the knifty knitters, but it just didnt look right and i was getting annoyed at the thought of all the panels i would have to sew together. if anything, i hope i have enough to make a wrap. also, it was done on the infinity loom that i mentioned in a previous post.

Baby blankets

I have a few friends that are expecting. So, what does a good friend do? Make blankets of course ! And if i 'm in a generous mood... i make matching hats ( no booties, i suck at making them). The solid pink and green blankets were done on a knitting loom and the striped one was crocheted. I hope they like them. To see close ups of the blankets, go to my photo album (link on sidebar).

Flash your Stash

well, i finally got around to taking pictures...first up, my stash. I have seen various other people flash theirs, so i thought, why not. what do i have to hide? i know it doesn't compare to others who have rooms overflowing, but i think that this is a nice start. I even think i freaked out a few relatives. who knew i was a yarn addict.

housewarming

finally getting around to having a house warming party. boy, does it take a lot of effort. hopefully it will be worth it. who knew a small place was a pain to clean.

also, my infinity loom came. i ordered it from decor accents . its awesome. cant wait to start using it. i have had the yarn for a few months. plus i want to redo a blanket that i crocheted previously. so many projects so little time.

back to prep work for the party

scientist at heart

i keep forgetting to give a tour of my blog. i know it is plain and simple but the scientist in me has to explain things. on the side bar.... there is a link to my pics on yahoo. i will try to add more pics to this blog, but i have to remember to take pics of things before i give things away. if i havent done so already, i have added a link to my job.... the link is labeled "hell" (obvious reasons). i also added links to blogs from people that are from some of the yahoo groups i belong to. if you like, i can add your's too. just email me. hopefully i will be able to add more when i figure out some things.

LOST, are you ?

okay, i can admit it, i am a LOST junkie. i know there are many of you out there. I even work with a few. i cant wait for next season. so, what do most people think....

1. do you think locke, eko, and desmond are alive?
2. do you think that jack planned on being caught ( all the head nodding)?
3. do you think michael is in on the plan and will come back to help?
4. whats up with the weird signal/ magnetic thing?
5. claire and charlie.....a good thing?

anything anyone wants to add/comment?

actually needle knitting

i finally (a few weeks ago) stated a needle knit project. I decieded on a chapotis pattern i found at knitty.com. i just finished the second section.... still a bit away from anything that looks like a finished project. but that is my nature..... so many unfinished projects. hopefully it will come out nice. may be one of these days i will post a pic of it in progress.

that also reminds me that i have to take a picture of the baby blankets/hat that i make for a few friends that are expecting. they were loom knitted, i must say i was over joyed how they came out.
